2. There are 12 Public Sector Banks in India after the merger of 10 public sector banks with 4 large public sector banks on August 30,2019. Allahabad Bank was merged with Indian Bank; Andhra Bank was merged with Union Bank of India; Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India was merged with Punjab National Bank; Syndicate Bank was merged with Canara Bank; Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank was merged with Bank of Baroda.
3. On First April 2015,ING Vysya Bank was merged with Kotak Mahindra Bank. Recently Lakshmi Vilas Bank has been merged with the Indian Branch of DBS Bank of Singapore.

6. 16th Finance Commission was constituted by the President of India under Art 280(1) on 31 December 2023. It's recommendations will be applicable for the period April 1,2026 to March 31,2031 for a period of 5 years. The chairman of 16th Finance Commission is Arvind Panagariya former vice chairman of NITI Ayog.
7. 13th Ministerial conference of WTO held in Abu Dhabi, UAE from 26February to 2March 2024 ended with no deals in Agriculture and Fisheries.
8. India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) group of Nations - Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland signed a free trade agreement (FTA) on 10 March 2024,which is third major trade deal of the Modi Govt. since 2022 when New Delhi signed separate bilateral agreements with UAE and Australia.

15. India ranks 134th in Human Development Index 2022 released on March 13,2024. Switzerland is at First place and Norway is at 2nd place.
16. India ranks 126 in World Happiness Report 2024. Finland is at first place and Denmark is at 2nd Place.
17. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman tabled Economic Survey 2023-24 in Parliament on July 22,2024. India's real GDP grew by 8.2%in 2023-24. India's GDP is expected to be between 6.5% and 7%in Financial year 2024-25. Retail Inflation declined to 5.4% from 6.7%in 2023-24. India's share in global merchandise exports was 1.8%in FY24. Unemployment rate declined to 3.2%in 2022-23. Female labour force participation currently stands at 37%.The agricultural sector has recorded an average annual growth rate of 4.18%at constant prices in the last 5 years.The services sector had a 55% share in the economy in FY 24 and has grown by 7.6% during this year.
18. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman presented union budget 2024-25 on 23rd July 2024.A total budget of Rs 41.28 lakh crore was presented. India's growth rate in FY 2024 was 8.2%. Fiscal deficit was 16.13 lakh crore that is 4.9% of GDP. Budget Theme was roadmap to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat. It's focus was on 4 categories (castes) that is Poor, Women, Youth and Farmers. In the budget Bihar got assistance of about 59000 crore rupees and Andhra Pradesh got assistance of Rs 15000 crores.

20. 43rd ASEAN summit 2023 was held in Jakarta.
21. 18th G20 summit 2023 was held in New Delhi.
22. Climate Summit 2024 was held in Mumbai.

30. 33rd Summer Olympics 2024 was held in Paris,France . USA,China, Japan attained respectively top 3 ranks. India attained 71th rank with total 6 medals (1 silver and 5 bronze). Manu Bhakar opened Indian medal tally with bronze in 10 metre shooting. She became the first Indian woman to do so in shooting in Olympics. Manu Bhakar and Sarobjit Singh brought 2nd bronze medal for India in mixed 10 metre shooting. Manu Bhakar was first Indian to get 2 medals in same olympics. Swapnil kusale brought 3rd bronze medal in 50 metre Rifle shooting. This was the greatest haul of medals by India in shooting in Olympics. Indian Hockey team got Bronze medal. Aman Sehrawat got Bronze in 57 kg category wrestling. Neeraj Chopra got Silver medal in Javelin throw.
31. 34th summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles,USA in 2028.
32.19th Asian Games 2023 was held in Hangzhou,China.The top four ranks were attained respectively by China,Japan, South Korea and India. India got 107 medals(28Gold, 38Silver and 41 Bronze).
33.20th Asian Games will be held in Nagoya, Japan in 2026.
34.22nd Commonwealth games 2022 was held in Birmingham, England. First place in medal table was of Australia and second place was of England. India attained 4th place with 61medals (22Gold, 16silver and 23bronze)
35. 23rd commonwealth games will be held in Victoria, Australia in 2026.
36. 37th National Games was held in Goa in 2023. Maharashtra attained the first place.
37. 38th National Games will be held in Uttarakhand in 2024 and 39th National Games will be held in Meghalaya in 2025.
38.Asia cup cricket was held in 2023 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. India won by beating Sri Lanka for 8th time.
39.ICC T20 Men World Cup,2024 was held in USA and West Indies. India won defeating South Africa by 7 runs after 17years. India had won earlier in 2007.
40.ICC Men T20 World Cup 2026 will be held in Sri Lanka and India.
41.13th Cricket World Cup 2023 was held in India which was won by Australia 6th time by defeating India by 6wickets. Final match was played in Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat.
42.14th Cricket World Cup will be held in 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
43.22nd FIFA (Football World Cup) was held in Qatar and won by Argentina (3rd time) defeating France.
44. 23rd FIFA will be held in 2026 in North America (USA, Canada & Mexico).
45.The 4 Grand Slam tournaments (Australian Open,French Open, Wimbledon and US Open) are top Tennis events in the world. Australian Open and US open are played on hard courts ; French Open is played on Clay; Wimbledon is played on grass.
46. Australian Men's Singles 2024 was won by Jannik Sinner ,Italy defeating Daniil Medvedev,Russia. French Men's Singles 2024 was won by Carlos Alcaraz , Spain by defeating Alexander Zverev , Germany. Wimbledon Men's Singles 2024 was won by Carlos Alcaraz, Spain defeating Novak Djokovic,Serbia. US Open Men's Singles,2023 was won by Novak Djokovic, Serbia defeating Daniil Medvedev, Russia.
47.Noble Prize 2023 for Medicine was given to Katalin Kariko , Hungary and Drew Weissman,USA for their discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID -19 .
Noble prize 2023 for peace was given to Narges Mohammadi ,Iran for the fight against oppression of women in Iran and the promotion of Human Rights and Freedom for all.
48. Dr Ravi Kannan R. ,India was given 65th Ramon Magsaysay Award ,2023 for holistic health care.
49.96th Oscar Awards ,2024 for best film was given to Oppenheimer, best director and best actor for the same film respectively to Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy.
50.58th Jnanpith Award ,2023 in field of Literature was given to Urdu poet Gulzar and Jagadguru Rambhadracharya .
51. Vyas Samman in field of Literature,2023 (33th)was given to Pushpa Bharti for Yaadein, Yaadein aur Yaadein.
52. Sarswati Samman in the field of Literature ,2023 (33th) was given to Prabha Verma for Novel Roudra Sathwikam.
53. Dadasaheb Phalke Award in field of Film,2023(53th) was given to Wahida Rahman.
54. Dadasaheb Phalke International Filmfare Award 2024 for best film was given to Jawan and best Actor to Shahrukh Khan.
