Journey from India's Old Parliament to New Parliament (पुराने संसद भवन से नए संसद भवन तक की यात्रा)

1. Edwin Lutyens & Herbert Baker were architects of Old Indian Parliament Building.
2. Old parliament building was constructed between 1921 and 1927 .
3. Between 1927 and 15th August 1947 Old Parliament Building was called Imperial Legislative Council. Functioning of Imperial Legislative Council started during the period of Viceroy Lord Irwin in 1927.
4. Between 15th August 1947 and 26th January 1950 it was called Constituent Assembly.
5. Between 26th January 1950 to 19th September 2023(Up to 1 PM ) it was called Parliament Building.
6. On 19 th September 2023 (About 2PM) Old Parliament Building was named by Prime minister Narendra Modi as Samvidhan Sadan.
7.New Parliament Building was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 28May 2023.
8.New Parliament Building was built between 2020 and 2023 . It was designed by Architect Bimal Patel. Inspite of COVID 19  Pandemic the New Parliament Building was completed in record time in about 3 Years.
9. Our Constituent Assembly was constituted on 6th December 1946 under the provisions of Cabinet Mission.
10. The first sitting of Constituent Assembly was held on 9 th December 1946 and last sitting was held on 24th January 1950. We adopted our constitution on 26th November 1949 which is celebrated as Constitution Day. It took 2 years 11months and  18 days to build the constitution. The temporary chairman of the constituent assembly from 9th December 1946 to 11th December 1946 was Dr Sacchidanand Sinha. The first chairman of Constituent Assembly was Dr Rajendra Prasad. There were 389 members in the constituent Assembly. The chairman of the Drafting Committee of the constitution was Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. There were 7members in the Drafting Committee. Dr BR Ambedkar is called father of our Indian Constitution.Our constitution was implemented on 26th January 1950 which is celebrated as Republic Day. 
11. On 24th January 1950 Dr Rajendra Prasad was elected as President of India by our Constituent Assembly. On 24th January 1950 our Constituent Assembly adopted Jan Gan Man as National Anthem and Vande Mataram as National Song . Sucheta Kriplani sang first verse of Vande Mataram on 24th January 1950 in the Constituent Assembly. 
12. The debates and discussions of Constituent Assembly used to be held in Central Hall of Old Parliament Building. At the same place famous speech of our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, (Tryst with Destiny) was delivered between the night of 14th and 15th August 1947. We celebrate our Independence Day on 15 th August. 
13. The new Parliament Building is part of Central Vista Project .It is triangular in shape. Old parliament building building is circular in shape. Both Old and New Parliament Building are  side by side on Sansad Marg,New Delhi .
14. On 19th September 2023 on Ganesh Chaturthi , 
Photo Session of all MPs of Loksabha and Rajyasabha was held outside Central Hall of Old Parliament Building in the morning hours. After this all members assembled in Central Hall of Old Parliament. Vice President & Chairman of Rajya Sabha Jagdeep Dhankar ; Loksabha Speaker Om Birla ; PM Narendra Modi; Longest Serving Loksabha MP Menka Gandhi ; leader of largest party in opposition in Loksabha Adhiranjan Choudhary; Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge etc shared their experiences, memories of freedom fighters and previous leaders.
15. About 1PM on 19th September 2023 , on Ganesh Chaturthi all MPs, Vice President, Loksabha Speaker & PM Modi reached new Parliament Building from Old Parliament Building on foot . 
16. In New Parliament Building too speech was given by PM Narendra Modi ,Adhiranjan Choudhary,Speaker Om Birla .
17. Women Reservation Bill called Nari Shakti Bandan Adhiniyam (128th Constitutional Amendment Bill )was laid in Loksabha on 19th September 2023 to provide 33%reservation to women in Loksabha and Legislative Assemblies , the very first day of functioning of Loksabha in New Parliament Building on Ganesh Chaturthi. 19th September 2023 has become a historic day for Women Empowerment and Social Justice .
18. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar called this new Parliament Building, Tryst with Modernity.
