10 Important facts about Jammu and Kashmir

1. Treaty of Amritsar was signed between the British government and Maharaja Gulab Singh on March 16, 1846.

2. The treaty handed over the control of the Kashmir to the Dogra rulers of Jammu and Ladakh region.
3. The new regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh was formed with Maharaja Gulab Singh as its founder ruler.
4. The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir came into existence on 31st October,2019 in terms of Jammu and Kashmir reorganization Act 2019.
5. It's summer and winter capitals are at Shringar and Jammu respectively.
6. It consists of 20 districts. Ten in Kashmir valley and 10 in Jammu division 
7. There were 565 princely states of India till India got independence in 1947.
8. The princely state Jammu and Kashmir was ruled by maharaja Hari Singh when the Britishers made it free from their paramountacy.
9. The main rivers of Jammu and Kashmir are The Jhelum, the Chenab, the Tavi , the Ravi, the Indus etc.
10. As of January 2025 Omar Abdullah is the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Lt governor is Sri Manoj Sinha.
